Zone Chat: Massively Overpowered (Update)

The Massively Overpowered has officially launched and you can still help support them via Kickstarter. I only hope the best for their writing team and look forward to interacting with the MMO community on the website.

As of February 3rd AOL has shutdown the joystiq team which directly impacted two major MMO news websites: WoW Insider and Massively. I have followed the writers of Massively for several years and I was saddened at the news of the shutdown.

There is however a phoenix rising out of the ashes of Massively and the writers have announced the creation of Massively Overpowered. The new website is not up yet, but you can follow several resources to keep informed of developments as they are announced.

Massively Overpowered

Even if you consider yourself a casual MMO gamer I encourage you to support Massively Overpowered. Massively has been a great community and I can only imagine Massively Overpowered will be bigger and better in many ways.

Weekend Recall: World of Dishonored Battlefield Wars

This past weekend was chock full of gaming. So much so that I am actually tired on a Monday and I have no screenshots prepared.

Friday night I played SW:TOR and leveled Bel’anjel the Sith Inquisitor Assassin to 48. When I returned to ship I noticed the Makeb planet quest line opened up for her which is fine by me because I was having a tough time getting through the fights on Voss and Corellia. I was falling asleep so I went to bed and didn’t get back to her until Sunday.

On Sunday I ended up changing her specialization from damage dealer to tanking. Now I can survive the fights and practice the tanking rotation. The Makeb GSI bolster makes things easier and faster not in a bad way either. It is nice for those of us who end up playing solo more often than not. When I logged off, Bel’anjel was level 53. This weekend I will finish leveling her and get to working on a healer.

Warlords of Draenor dominated my Saturday. I focused on Misfight the Undead Rogue. Let me say that I feel that the leveling is going very fast. I am doing every quest and elite boss that I can find so I am experiencing all of the new content. But leveling from 93 to 97 in a day seems ridiculous. Considering that the end game is almost non-existent at this point I will have nothing to do when I max out.

Before going to bed on Saturday I setup some games to download overnight from Steam. Dishonored was one of those games I picked up during the summer sale that has just sat there beckoning to me. I ended up playing Dishonored for most of the day on Sunday. It was a great escape into a unique world where I can sneak around looking in every nook and cranny for goodies.

I wanted to play some Battlefield 4, but there was an issue with their login servers so I went back to Dishonored and got to the big story plot twist before I had to get to bed so I wouldn’t fall asleep at work.

Weekend Recall: Nothing But The Old Republic

I was on an MMO mission this past weekend. With the launch of Warlords of Draenor this week I was focused like a laser. I spent all of my gaming time playing Star War: The Old Republic.

I got two more characters to level 55. On’mitsu the Imperial Agent and Joshamee the Smuggler joined Ferrumarx the Sith Juggernaut at level cap. I barely started questing on Oricon before I decided to get onto other things.

As far as lower level characters I only played my healers; Surjon the Bounty Hunter and Relaeh the Republic Commando. I have enough high level characters available for when the expansion launches in December so any lower level characters that can take advantage of the 12% xp bonus right now is a welcome gift.

I kind of hope that the experience bonus is something that they implement in some way permanently for subscribers. Next week I am sure I will have more to say about World of Warcraft.

Weekend Recall: World Thunder Bounty Hunter Trek

The weekend was eventful to say the least.

Saturday morning I woke up with the goal of taking advantage of my limited free game time to take screenshots of my characters. I wanted to have some record of my characters for future reference because I was determined not to play World of Warcraft in the foreseeable future.

A long time friend who has stayed faithful to WoW, despite joining me for Guild Wars 2 for a couple of months, logged in and asked me if I wanted to group up for some raid finder stuff. I explained that I just wanted to take screenshots and complete the Iron Horde Invasion event on my main characters for the achievement and epic trinket. We continued to chat when I decided to quest on the lowest level character I had on the server.

Zinistara the Blood Elf Warlock has been level 10 since the Cataclysm expansion because I stopped playing shortly after the expansion launched. When I did eventually get the Mists of Pandaria expansion I spent all my time playing my highest level characters and leveling an Alliance monk. I have also had a problem with the warlock class when leveling because I don’t like pet management classes.

Maybe it was the item squish or something else, but I started having fun playing the warlock. Then I asked my friend how the boosted character system worked… my brain at this point already made the decision to purchase the expansion so I could boost my warlock. Sixty-five bucks later I had a boosted warlock, the pre-purchase to Warlords of Draenor and a month of subscription time.

I totally blamed my friend as a joke, but I had fun playing a class I never really liked before. If Warlords is entertaining and continues to be fun I look forward to playing all of my other alternate characters at least for a while.

War Thunder celebrated a 2 year anniversary with a free airplane if you scored five kills in a single match. I was able to accomplish this feat by flying my Japanese planes which are tier one. Sorry to those other pilots I sent down in flames.

With only one more month until the release of the Shadow of Revan expansion for Star Wars: The Old Republic. I have had to face the reality that I won’t be able to max out all of my characters. I am going to play each class for each faction so I can experience the class story. Besides if I don’t have other characters to level then I won’t have anything to do later after the expansion launches.

This past weekend I played Surjon the Bounty Hunter. Being a healer it is nice to mix up the questing with relatively quick flash point groups. The story is interesting so far and I am playing the character as a tough guy with good heart who only tolerates the Empire as long as the pay is good.

If you play Star Trek Online and have some extra spending money, Cryptic is selling lifetime subscriptions for only $200. I spent some of my Christmas funds a bit early on an early gift for myself. Now I get to play a captain as a liberated Borg which is really cool because I have been thinking up a back story for a Borg captain. STO is a game I am constantly returning to because I really do like the space battles and Bridge Officer and Duty Officer systems.
